Hatchery Poult Technician - Harrisonburg, VA.
- Assists in unloading boxes of poults onto the Gender Tech Wheel;
- Clips the poult’s talons;
- Performs Dew-claw treatment;
- Performs De-snoot treatment;
- Checks the customers’ orders to see what medication is requested for the poults;
- Injects the poults with medication using the PSP machines;
- Separates the toms and the hens, placing them in the correct box;
- Move boxes of poults after servicing in preparation for shipment;
- Rotates between positions;
- Performs some sanitation duties to ensure a safe and clean environment.
- To follow all of the company’s for bio security, animal welfare and safety.
- To work as a team to achieve the company’s goals;
- To be organized to ensure the tasks are completed correctly and in a timely manner;
- To be flexible and able to work in many different positions while rotating tasks/positions;
- To be knowledgeable about the different types of medicine vaccinations;
- To handle the poults with extreme care to prevent injury; to lift boxes of poults weighing approximately 15 lbs;
- To be exposed to dust, humidity, chemicals, and fumes;
- To be available and willing to work an extended workday or other days as needed.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
- Ability to communicate verbally with others; ability to listen; ability to read to perform the duties of the job. Bilingual Spanish speaking ability desired.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, to walk, and to use hands for the entire work shift; ability to be exposed to dust, humidity, chemicals, and fumes.
- Ability to lift 15 lbs and to bend, stoop and squat to complete job duties;
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Willing and able to work an extended work shift and other days as needed.
