Cardiologist (Hampton)
The Cardiologist will be responsible for consultative services and developing treatment plans for the management of Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center, and emergency department settings. The incumbent will provide evaluations and treatment recommendations regarding patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification in a core specialty.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are not considered independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred: Board Certification in Cardiology.
- Physical requirements include lifting (up to 45 lbs.), reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, and visual and auditory acuity.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, or until all positions are filled, with initial referral cut-off on May 30, 2025, and subsequent bi-weekly cut-offs.
- Provide direct patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings, including diagnostic assessments, medication management, and therapeutic interventions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, document care, and supervise residents, fellows, medical students, and NP/PAs.
- Provide weekend and holiday coverage, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and offer leadership and teaching to staff and trainees.
