General Superintendent (Major Tunnel & Transportation Infrastructure Project)
Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (). We are currently looking for a General Superintendent to join our team for a major tunnel and transportation infrastructure project in Virginia, USA (on-site position).
-Project: Major Tunnel, Highway, and Transportation Infrastructure Works.
-Estimated duration of the position: 6–9 months.-In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.
-Summary
The General Superintendent will lead and oversee all roadway and structural construction activities inside an existing tunnel, ensuring safe, efficient, and coordinated execution across all field operations. The role is responsible for managing field teams, discipline superintendents, subcontractors, production targets, logistics, quality, and safety while coordinating closely with Project Management, Engineering, QA/QC, Survey, and HSE teams.
-Main Responsibilities
- Lead all field operations within the tunnel environment.
- Coordinate roadway, structural, and heavy civil construction activities.
- Supervise discipline superintendents, foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
- Plan work sequencing, access control, logistics, and daily construction activities.
- Ensure compliance with project schedules and production targets.
- Enforce safety procedures and best practices for underground construction.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Field Engineering, Survey, QA/QC, and HSE teams.
- Monitor construction quality and support inspection activities.
- Resolve constructability issues, field conflicts, and technical challenges.
- Prepare and review daily progress reports and production updates.
- Optimize manpower, equipment, and subcontractor performance.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence across the project.
-Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 12-hour night shifts, with alternating Saturdays.

-Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Proven experience as a General Superintendent or equivalent leadership role.
- Strong background in tunnel, underground, roadway, transportation, or major infrastructure projects.
- Extensive knowledge of structural concrete, rebar, formwork, roadway construction, and field logistics.
- Experience managing large multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, productivity, and schedule management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- English level: C1 (Advanced).
- Local candidates are preferred.
