Job Title: Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
Position Type: Part-Time
Program: Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
Location: Martinsville, Virginia
Reports To: ACT Team Lead/Clinical Supervisor
Position Summary:
Caring Hearts Counseling is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. This part-time position will provide substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services to adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders in community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide individualized and group counseling services to ACT consumers with co-occurring substance use disorders.
· Conduct substance use assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing evaluations.
· Collaborate with the ACT team to develop integrated care plans that address both mental health and substance use needs.
· Deliver harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention interventions tailored to the consumer’s stage of recovery.
· Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with Medicaid and DBHDS standards.
· Participate in ACT team meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary treatment planning and crisis intervention strategies.
· Provide education to consumers and natural supports on substance use, recovery, and wellness strategies.
· Assist with linkages to community resources such as residential treatment, detox, support groups, and medical care.
· Conduct field visits and provide services in home, community, and office-based settings.
· Participate in on-call rotations and crisis response as needed.
Qualifications:
· Required:
· CSAC certification from the Virginia Board of Counseling.
· Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
· Knowledge of evidence-based practices in substance use treatment (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing).
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
· Preferred:
· Experience working with ACT or similar intensive community-based programs.
· Familiarity with Medicaid documentation and billing requirements.
Work Schedule:
Part-time, flexible hours (approximately 10–20 hours/weekly).
