The following is Loyalty Nissan’s Technician Apprentice Position

Introductory Phase:

  • Prospective candidates will begin as Service Greeters, Detailers, or Lube Technicians at any of our locations.
  • Employees will be evaluated on basic behaviors by Service Management:
    • Punctuality.
    • No absenteeism.
    • Appropriate dress.
    • Solid "can-do" attitude.
    • Sense of urgency and hustle required to be a great technician.
  • Candidates may spend time in the parts department to understand the importance of detailed descriptions when adding recommendations to Multi-Point Inspections.
  • This position pays $14 per hour.

Upon satisfactory completion of the introductory phase, the Service Management team will graduate the candidate to Level 1 Apprentice. This generally occurs when the student begins their fall classes at Reynolds Community College.

Level 1 Apprentice:

  • Apprentices will work under the guidance of a Technician Trainer who is Nissan Scope Level or higher.
  • They will receive their starter tool box and tools at this time.
  • They will receive logins for Xtime Inspect, TruVideo, and Dealertrack.
  • Apprentices must download the TruVideo app on their personal cell phones.
  • In addition to classroom and hands-on training, apprentices must complete the following online training during their first year:
    • Nissan Technician Certification – 1 of 3 (5 courses)
    • Nissan Technician Certification – 2 of 3 (12 courses)
    • Nissan Technician Certification – 3 of 3 (5 courses)

Once completed, apprentices can begin training toward becoming a Scope Specialist in Electrical, Engine, Chassis, and Driveline and pursue DFRT OBD II Certifications (Diagnostic Flat Rate Time On-Board Diagnostics).

Scope Training Requirements:

Scope Electrical Specialist Online Training:

  • Both Basic Electrical training modules:
    • Both HVAC online trainings
    • One additional online training

Scope Engine Specialist 1:

  • All three Engine Control System online trainings.
  • Both OBD II online trainings.

Scope Chassis Specialist:

  • One Noise Vibration and Harshness online training.
  • All three Chassis online trainings.

Scope Driveline Specialist:

One Introduction to Driveline online training:

  • One Driveline online training.
  • Two Operation and Diagnosis online trainings.
  • One Diagnosis and Repair online training.
  • Completion Milestones:
    • 50% of these courses must be completed by the end of Year 1 to advance to Level 2 Apprentice.
    • 100% must be completed by the end of Year 2 in the Automotive Program at Reynolds Community College.
  • The Level 1 Apprentice position pays $16/hour.

Level 2 Apprentice:

  • Level 2 Apprentices can work independently on tasks beyond basic maintenance under mentor supervision.
  • Expectations include:
    • Completing the second year of studies at Reynolds Community College.
    • Successfully completing three Automotive ASE certifications (prioritizing ASE A6 and A7).
    • Earning a $2 raise for every three ASE certifications completed.
    • Obtaining a Virginia State Inspection License (with an additional $2 raise).

Nissan Manufacturer Training Requirements:

  • Complete online certifications for:
    • Scope Electrical Specialist
    • Scope Engine Specialist 1
    • Scope Chassis Specialist
    • Scope Driveline Specialist
  • Enroll in Engine Control Systems and On-Board Diagnostic Systems II in-class training at Nissan North America’s D.C. Area Training Facility in Sterling, VA.
  • Upon completing these classroom trainings, apprentices will achieve Scope Engine 1 Specialist and DFRT/OBD II Certification, earning an additional $2 raise.

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Apprentice phase, candidates will be promoted to Certified Technician, transitioning to flat-rate pay at $28 per flat-rate hour. A hybrid pay plan may be implemented to ease the transition.

Certified Technician and Beyond:

  • The two-year apprenticeship does not mark the end of the certification journey. Loyalty Nissan supports continued efforts to achieve Master Nissan Technician status.
  • Roadmap includes:
    • Completing Scope Electrical, Engine, Chassis, and Driveline Specialist training.
    • Pursuing advanced certifications (e.g., Diesel, EV, Hybrid, Transmission, CVT).
    • Achieving GT-R Specialist and Platinum Master Certification.
