Travel Nurse Job Details

• Location: Charlottesville, VA 22908 (Central Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains)
• Facility Type: Acute care hospital – Intermediate/Stepdown unit
• Unit: 6 North Intermediate Care – 12 beds (cardiac stepdown / neuro-stepdown)
• Assignment Type: Travel Nurse (Travel RN)
• Duration: 13 weeks (March 30, 2026 – June 29, 2026)
• Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (19:00 – 07:00)
• Hours per Week: 36 hours/week
• Patient Ratio: 1:3
• Patient Population: Neuro trauma, post-op spine, neurosurgery, ENT oncology, and a wide range of neurological and cardiac conditions
• Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Time Off: Up to 40 hours of pre-approved time off per contract

Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in stepdown, intermediate care, telemetry, or similar setting (cardiac step-down or neuro-stepdown experience highly preferred)
• Active Registered Nurse license (Virginia or compact state). Pending VA license accepted if in hand by Wednesday before start date
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Epic EMR / Epic charting experience required
• BSN preferred
• Ability to float within scope of practice as needed
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Professional references required

Core Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with complex cardiac and neurological needs in a stepdown/telemetry environment
• Continuous cardiac and neuro monitoring, telemetry interpretation, and timely escalation of changes in condition
• Monitor, assess, and document patient status and progress using Epic EMR
• Administer medications and manage drips (including cardiac and vasoactive drips; no titration)
• Perform and manage neuro assessments, post-op care, and specialized interventions (e.g., lumbar drains, arterial lines, feeding tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow oxygen)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, respiratory therapy, IV team, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Adhere to all safety, infection control, and isolation protocols
• Participate in patient and family education and discharge planning
• Float to other units within scope of practice as needed
