GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the administrative and coordination support work related to the procurement and allocating of materials, supplies, equipment, and uniforms for the Fire Department. Reports to the Logistics Manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for assisting with the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, construction, goods, and services for the department; maintains inventory levels following procurement guidelines and regulations; contacts vendors to determine product availability, cost and quality and responds to vendor inquiries; enters and retrieves purchasing information from automated inventory and purchasing systems; may prepare informal requests for quotations. Responsible for research and analysis of products and services, product substitutions, price and quality differences, and shipping options; obtains warranties and quotes; may serve as a liaison between the department and provider. Responsible for the receipt and distribution of uniforms and other related equipment to all sworn personnel, civilians, and volunteers; ensures uniforms and equipment are issued to specific job functions following approved guidelines; may perform uniform and equipment fittings, measurements and minor repair; reviews current uniforms and equipment to ensure proper working order, serviceability, warranty data and expired shelf life; and evaluates disposition of obsolete items. Ensures stock item quantities are kept up-to-date for issuance; codes or labels stock and stores in appropriate area; and receives all uniforms and equipment from sworn and civilian personnel upon retirement or termination. Performs other duties as assigned.   • Purchasing - Knowledge of purchasing methods and competitive bid processes in a procurement
environment, as well as general purchasing procedures and guidelines. Knowledge of applicable

federal, state and local purchasing laws and regulations to include the Virginia Public Procurement Act.

  • Inventory Management - Thorough knowledge of stock and inventory recordkeeping to include
safe, effective, and efficient handling and storage of stock, material, tools, and supplies.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Computer Skills - Utilizes a personal computer or laptop with word processing, spreadsheet, pick
ticket, fleet maintenance and related software to effectively complete a variety of administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal Relationships/Customer Service - Develops and maintains cooperative and
professional relationships with employees and the public.
  • Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of
completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.

REQUIRED ABILITIES

  • Judgement/Decision Making - Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and
evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
  • Communication - Ability to communicate ideas effectively, to include the preparation of detailed
reports and logs. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas being presented verbally and in writing. Ability to handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.
  • Financial Management - Ability to perform basic arithmetic and statistical applications to perform
purchasing and financial transactions. Ability to employ economic and accounting principles and practices in the analysis and reporting of budgeting data.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of supply, stock, or warehouse experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding
work
  • Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and crawling.
  • May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials
(20-50 pounds).

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues
or signals.
  • Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
