Recycling Site Supervisor

As the Newport News Supervisor, you will oversee daily facility operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance at our Newport News location. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting both people and processes. The Supervisor will play a key role in coordinating drivers, managing scale and transfer station activities, and maintaining high standards of service for customers and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the Newport News facility, including drivers, scale operations, and transfer station activities
- Assign daily routes to drivers, monitor performance, and ensure timely completion of all routes
- Track drivers, equipment, and operational issues in real time to ensure smooth facility operations
- Perform scale operations, including weighing inbound and outbound loads and generating accurate scale tickets
- Record and verify material types, weights, and shipment details with attention to detail
- Coordinate with drivers, vendors, and internal teams to direct loads and manage daily activities
- Arrange third-party shipments, containers, and material transfers as needed
- Maintain accurate records and reporting for inbound and outbound materials and inventory
- Support transfer station operations and assist heavy equipment operators as required
- Ensure proper handling, loading, and movement of materials within the facility
- Train and supervise employees on safety, compliance, and operational procedures
- Conduct investigations of accidents, incidents, and injuries as necessary
- Maintain compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure facility cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness
- Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors, vendors, and drivers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of supervisory or operations experience preferred
- Experience in waste, recycling, logistics, or transfer station operations preferred
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations
- Understanding of waste and recycling operations, scale operations, material types, and weights
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and scale systems
- Knowledge of local roads, transfer station operations, and equipment
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for interacting with employees, customers, and vendors
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple operational functions simultaneously
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, production environment
- Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment (such as forklift or skid steer)
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain a CDL license preferred
- Strong attention to detail, especially with weights, materials, and documentation
