Location: Alexandria, VA
Pay: $30.00/hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday (On-call rotation as needed)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Building Engineer to maintain and troubleshoot the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems that support commercial and institutional facilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diagnosing complex building system issues, responding to equipment failures, and ensuring facilities operate safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems.
- Monitor and maintain boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, VAVs, and related mechanical equipment.
- Utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor and optimize building performance.
- Troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues independently.
- Complete preventive maintenance while responding to service calls and equipment emergencies.
- Perform inspections to ensure building systems operate safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders using a CMMS.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience maintaining commercial or institutional buildings.
- Strong hands-on experience with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience operating boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, and related equipment.
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Ability to diagnose equipment failures and perform repairs with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable responding to after-hours emergencies when required.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA Universal Certification
- Stationary Engineer License (DC, Maryland, NIULPE, or equivalent)
- HVAC Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, or Niagara BAS
