Operation Smile is seeking a Cohort Manager to support a 9‑month Women in Medicine Leadership Fellowship for early‑ to mid‑career female health workers in Sub‑Saharan Africa.

- Title: Cohort Manager, Women in Medicine Leadership Fellowship – Sub‑Saharan Africa
- Location: Remote (Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, or other Sub‑Saharan countries where Operation Smile operates)
- Modality: Remote
- Travel: 15% (includes a 3‑day in‑person cohort kickoff in Morocco in February; a 4‑day all‑cohorts workshop in late March or early April 2026)
- Target Start Date: February 2, 2026
- Duration: 9 months
- Compensation: $1,000 per month
- Hours: 10–15 hours per week
Summary
The Cohort Manager plays both a leadership and supportive role, serving as the primary point of contact for a cohort of about 20 fellows. The role facilitates engagement, provides guidance on independent projects, promotes social interaction, and supports the overall success of the fellowship.
Responsibilities
- Regular communication with the Women in Medicine team
- Weekly Fellowship team meetings
- Weekly meetings of all cohort managers
- Serve as primary contact for fellows and mentors
- First point of contact for live‑event absences, technical issues, etc.
- Route questions or concerns to appropriate team members
- Compile fellows’ biographies, stipend information, and travel details
- Monitor and encourage fellow participation
- Send monthly session calendars and reminders
- Run live sessions on Operation Smile Academy and provide technical support
- Track attendance and follow up with absent or unengaged fellows
- Confirm regular mentor‑fellow meetings and share post‑session surveys
- Educational leadership for fellows
- Support questions about course content and learning materials
- Assist fellows in applying course themes to their projects
- Recommend supplementary educational resources
- Encourage cohort connection and social engagement
- Manage the Fellowship WhatsApp group
- Maintain birthday lists and send recognition messages
- Facilitate casual Fellows‑only meetings and monthly feedback sessions
- Propose activity ideas to the WIM Fellowship leadership team
- Work with mentors to understand support needs
- Conduct monthly mentor feedback sessions and surveys
- Identify strategies for cohort engagement and success
- Other opportunities
- Research: collaborate on robust M&E and design research projects using fellowship data
- Teaching and training: design and deliver lectures or on‑site training for fellows
- Participate in the kickoff leadership development workshop (DiSC assessment, associate trainings, etc.)
Qualifications
- Proficient professional English; proficient Arabic; French is a benefit
- Experience coordinating learning groups or educational cohorts
- Familiarity with global health and/or leadership development
- Experience as a TA for university or graduate students (preferred)
- Ability to work across time zones and within the cohort members’ time zone
