Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist - Toxicology
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist to support our Toxicology department on the day shift. This role is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise, overseeing daily operations, supporting quality assurance initiatives, and serving as a resource for technologists and technicians within the laboratory. The Lead Technologist will ensure accurate, timely testing and uphold the highest standards of laboratory practice.

Location: Charlottesville, VA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the technical lead for the Toxicology laboratory, providing guidance and support to staff on complex testing and workflow issues.
Perform and troubleshoot toxicology assays in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Oversee daily laboratory operations, including workflow management, instrument maintenance, and quality control review.
Support training, competency assessments, and mentorship for laboratory personnel.
Collaborate with laboratory leadership to implement process improvements, new testing methodologies, and equipment validations.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of test results while maintaining strict adherence to laboratory protocols.
Monitor and maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other regulatory requirements.
Act as a point of contact for clinical staff regarding toxicology testing questions or escalations.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree with completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS/CLS program, or
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science
Experience:
MLS/CLS program graduates: 3 years of relevant laboratory experience
Biology/Chemistry or related science graduates: 5 years of relevant laboratory experience
Licensure/Certification:
ASCP MT/MLS certification or categorical equivalent required
Compensation:
Starting base rate: $36.56 per hour
Final compensation is based on experience, education, and qualifications.
