About the Opportunity
A well-established Mid-Atlantic defense litigation firm seeks a Litigation Associate to join its Fairfax office. The firm represents insurers, insureds, self-insured companies, third-party administrators, and commercial clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters including general liability, insurance defense, workers compensation, transportation, premises liability, products liability, construction-related claims, and coverage matters.
This role offers hands-on responsibility, courtroom and deposition experience, direct client contact, and the opportunity to grow professionally within a collaborative, trial-focused team known for strategic advocacy and cost-effective results.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a litigation caseload from initial pleadings through final resolution
- Draft and argue dispositive and procedural motions, memoranda, and settlement documents
- Conduct and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
- Participate in court appearances, mediations, and arbitration hearings
- Perform case evaluations, legal research, and provide strategic recommendations to clients
- Maintain regular communication with clients, carriers, and co-counsel
- Work closely with partners and senior attorneys on complex civil and insurance defense matters
- Maintain organized, timely, and efficient file and case management
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active DC or Virginia bar license, or willingness to obtain; Maryland admission is a plus
- 3-5 years of civil litigation or insurance defense experience preferred
- Strong experience with motion practice, including drafting and arguing dispositive motions
- Experience taking and defending depositions, participating in mediations, and advising clients
- Excellent writing, analytical, and courtroom skills
- Ability to manage cases independently while collaborating within a team environment
- Experience handling multi-party or complex civil litigation
- Background in insurance defense, general liability, transportation, premises liability, or workers compensation
- Confidence handling court appearances in state and federal courts
- Strong communication skills and a client service mindset
