Description

This position under general supervision, performs work of in a variety of clerical functions involving voter registration, answering citizen inquiries, and assisting early and absentee voting administration.

Essential Functions

• Processing new voter registration and absentee ballot applications;
• Running reports as needed and compiling spreadsheets;
• Filing, sorting, and maintaining accurate records;
• Interacting and engaging with the public and candidates to answer registration and campaign questions;
• Assists in the preparation for any and all elections.
• Assists with the conduct of local, state and federal elections, as assigned, in accordance with state and federal election laws

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Skilled with computer systems and Microsoft Office software including:
  • Microsoft Word - editing, formatting text, and tables
  • Microsoft Excel - editing, formatting spreadsheets and basic functions
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft PowerPoint - editing and formatting presentations'
  • Various database applications
• Ability to prepare documents and reports with accuracy
• Ability to lift and maneuver 50-pound voting machines
• Ability to learn, interpret and apply specific federal, state and local voter registration and election laws and regulations
• Superior customer service skills

Education, Experience and Training

• High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 1 year of office experience is required.
• Previous experience with elections is preferred. Special Requirements: Must be resident of and registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia Must possess valid Virginia Driver's License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is sedentary work, which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: climbing, bending, reaching, handling, and grasping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.

As part of employment with Goochland County, all employees are required to complete Emergency preparedness and incident management training courses as directed or requested.
