Accounting Specialist
Kforce has a client that is seeking an Accounting Specialist in Alexandria, VA. Key Responsibilities: General Accounting:
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities
- Prepare trial balances and support the preparation of financial statements
- Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and payments
- Manage customer invoicing, cash receipts, and collections
- Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable sub-ledgers
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Process payroll on a regular schedule, including deductions and garnishments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements
- Maintain payroll records and respond to employee payroll inquiries
- Prepare internal financial reports for management
- Maintain organized financial records to support audits and tax filings
- Coordinate with external CPAs, payroll providers, and tax professionals
- Track fixed assets and maintain depreciation schedules
- Assist with budgeting and cash-flow tracking
- Support process improvements and accounting system maintenance
- QuickBooks experience - strong
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working independently
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Able to -manage up- and work effectively with senior leadership (reporting to CFO/Managing Director)
- Good common sense and practical habits; Knows when to ask questions but can take initiative
