OVPRI link The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and our Research Computing division invites interested candidates to apply for an exciting opportunity as the Web Programmer (Job Family - Information Technology, Job Title - IT Developer/Programmer, Job Code - 24251 - 24253). The Web Programmer will serve as one of the developers for the VCU enterprise research administration systems. This system supports the research enterprise in grant submission and management, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol management/review, conflict of interest management, export control, and core research service billing/invoicing. This position will: Implement detailed technical specifications in the ERA system by developing new code and improving existing systems Work to Improve the product experience Be responsible for iterating on new products and features through collaboration with analysts and stakeholders Assist in the development of new functions and applications Write accessible and maintainable JavaScript, CSS, and HTML Minimum Hiring Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Digital Design, or other relevant degree. Experience designing and building websites using utility-first CSS frameworks Experience using modern vanilla JavaScript/TypeScript (ie without jQuery, React, etc) and build tools like Webpack Knowledge of template engines like Twig, Pebble, or Blade Templates Familiarity with how PHP/Symfony interacts with front-end systems Experience building user-friendly features and software components with good performance A solid technical understanding of how to build systems and UI patterns, whilst working within a complex set of technical constraints. The ability to communicate design goals and processes clearly and concisely to other team members and stakeholders. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical requirements Be self-motivated and seek to evolve your skills and share what they've learnt with others.
