Assistant Controller
Kforce has a client in McLean, VA that is seeking an Assistant Controller. Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting. This role plays a key part in strengthening internal controls, improving processes, and ensuring accurate and timely financial information. Responsibilities:
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
- Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Support audit preparation and act as a liaison with external auditors
- Assist with internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
- Partner with AP, AR, and payroll teams to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation
- Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CPA or CPA-track a plus
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience as a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with month-end close and financial reporting
- ERP system experience (Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP, or similar preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
