• Job Title: Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) – Locum Tenens
• Location: Galax, Virginia (Zip: 24333) – Virginia healthcare jobs
• Employment Type: Locum tenens (Travel nursing contract)
• Setting: Behavioral Health Unit (12 beds, adult population)
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 9/15/2025 – End: 12/15/2025)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend/as needed
• Electronic Health Record: Paragon EHR
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1750–$1800

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible to practice in Virginia (Virginia RN license)
• Minimum 1 year of recent behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or medical RN experience
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• CPI or Handle with Care certification (required prior to start)
• Completion of Virginia Central Registry Release of Information form
• Virginia fingerprinting and background checks (FBI and VA State Police)
• Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry clearance
• Strong communication, assessment, de-escalation, and delegation skills

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with behavioral health and psychiatric diagnoses (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, personality disorders)
• Conduct patient assessments, implement isolation and restraint protocols as needed, and delegate tasks to clinical support staff
• Utilize telehealth technology, medication administration machines, and emergency response equipment
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Paragon Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Float to other nursing units as needed and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Demonstrate a matter-of-fact, non-judgmental approach to patient care in a behavioral health setting
