Driver - Univ. of Virginia-Catering
The Virginia Catering Company, operated by UVA Dine, is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Driver to join our team. This role is essential for the timely and safe delivery of food, beverages, equipment, and supplies for various catering events across the University of Virginia grounds and surrounding areas. The Driver will be responsible for ensuring all items are transported securely, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and providing excellent service during deliveries and pickups.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely operate company vehicles (e.g., vans, trucks) for the delivery and pickup of catering orders, including food, beverages, equipment, and supplies.
- Load and unload vehicles efficiently and carefully, ensuring all items are secured to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify order accuracy against delivery manifests before leaving the catering facility and upon arrival at event locations.
- Navigate routes efficiently, adhering to delivery schedules and traffic laws.
- Set up and break down catering equipment at event sites as required, often involving lifting and carrying.
- Maintain cleanliness of company vehicles, performing routine checks (e.g., fuel, oil, tires) and reporting any maintenance needs.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines during transport, ensuring proper temperature control for food items.
- Provide professional and courteous service to clients and event contacts during deliveries and pickups.
- Communicate effectively with the catering operations team regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Complete delivery logs, mileage records, and other required paperwork accurately.
- Assist with inventory management and organization of catering equipment as needed.
- Follow all UVA Dine and Aramark policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a delivery or transportation role, preferably in food service or catering.
- Ability to read maps and use GPS navigation systems effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is a plus.

- Ability to problem-solve on the go.
- Experience with catering setup/breakdown is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach frequently.
- Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally more with assistance.
- Ability to load and unload vehicles, which may involve repetitive motions.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
