Electrical Technician II, Connected
Join a dedicated team in Boydton, VA as an Electrical Technician II, Connected, supporting critical infrastructure by ensuring the reliability and performance of Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) battery systems. This role offers hands-on experience with battery installations, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting in a dynamic environment. The position provides opportunities to learn advanced battery technologies and work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to the seamless operation of essential facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
- Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of battery systems with minimal disruption to customers.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
- Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external customers.
- Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment as required.
- Assist with tasks in other service divisions, such as Switch Gear, Operations, and HVAC, as needed.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Learn to disconnect and connect sealed batteries in cabinets and open racks.
- Gain experience building battery racks and spill containment systems.
- Install flooded cell batteries onto rack systems in critical spaces.
- Enter pre-installation test readings and collect data for reporting using a laptop computer.
- Participate in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs with increasing independence.
- Assist in warehouse operations when required.
- Travel approximately 50% or more as part of the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of or willingness to learn AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment and use hand tools.
- Willingness to complete training on digital multimeters, amp clamps, flexible CTs, and battery testing equipment.
- Understanding of proper use of isolation devices and personal protective equipment (PPE), including Arc-Flash suits.
- Ability to work with series, parallel, and series-parallel battery strings.
- Familiarity with torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of battery installations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Ability to obtain security clearance is preferred.
