This position is contingent upon contract award.
An Engineering Technician IV in a barge berthing and messing environment is a senior-level technical specialist who provides advanced support for habitability systems, mechanical/electrical components, utilities, berthing infrastructure, and general barge operations in support of ship availabilities. This role will serve as a technical lead, troubleshooter, and subject-matter resource for maintenance staff and supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair support for barge utility systems (HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, lighting, and habitability infrastructure).
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and NAVSEA standards to ensure systems meet operational requirements.
- Act as a senior SME to coordinate with shipyard personnel, ship’s force, and support contractors to resolve system deficiencies.
- Provide supervisory technical guidance to Electricians, Maintenance Techs, and junior technicians.
- Support upgrades and modifications to berthing and messing systems, as directed.
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure systems operation aligns with Navy safety, environmental, and habitability standards.
- Accomplish a preliminary and final visual and operational inspection of all systems and equipment utilizing barge systems and equipment check off list (BSEC) and submit a detailed report of all discrepancies.
- Communicating status updates, work requirements, and system impacts to supervisors and barge leadership.
- Other duties as identified and assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- BS in Engineering related to mechanical, electrical, or marine engineering discipline.
- Active DoD Personnel Security Clearance
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, facilities maintenance, shipboard systems, or industrial/marine operations.
- 5+ years in supervisory or senior technical position.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a large, complex team environment.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and maintaining:
- HVAC and habitability systems
- Electrical and lighting distribution
- Mechanical systems (pumps, fans, water heaters, etc.)
- Utility and support equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Engineering Technician IV shall oversee barge maintenance operations while assisting lower-level technicians in answering questions, demonstrating techniques, and providing guidance as needed to complete the requirements of the contract/program.
- Assigning or reviewing technical tasks to ensure proper troubleshooting and repair execution.
Security Responsibilities
- Eligible and obtain a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
- Must comply with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures.
- May be responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials. Employee shall not divulge any information, or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know authorization. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. Will be required to execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information.
Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex words and technical documents/diagrams.
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work effectively as part of a team.
Reasoning Ability and Mathematical Skills
Must be able to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to calculate figures and numbers, and percentages and be able to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

- Will be working in areas with risk of injury from electrical applications, moving mechanical parts, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems under pressure and electrical motion systems.
- May be exposed to conditions of extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
