About the Role:
The Lead Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance and safety of all vehicles, landscape machinery and equipment on site. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a diverse range of heavy-duty landscaping vehicles and tools. The Lead Mechanic will lead a team of technicians, providing guidance and expertise to maintain high standards of workmanship and efficiency. This role requires a proactive approach to equipment management, including scheduling preventative maintenance and responding swiftly to breakdowns to minimize downtime. Ultimately, the Lead Mechanic ensures that all machinery operates reliably to support the successful and timely completion of projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably within the landscaping industry.
- Proven experience leading or supervising a team of mechanics or technicians.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components used in landscaping machinery.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate landscaping equipment and vehcles as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from a recognized trade or technical school in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel technology.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- OSHA certification or other relevant safety training credentials.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations related to equipment emissions and waste disposal.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills using modern diagnostic tools.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the mechanic team to ensure timely and effective maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, and perform repairs on engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other heavy equipment systems.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures and extend machinery lifespan.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and labor hours, to support compliance and budgeting.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize equipment readiness and address urgent repair needs promptly.
Skills:
The Lead Mechanic utilizes technical skills daily to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic issues, ensuring equipment reliability. Leadership skills are essential for managing and mentoring the mechanic team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment. Organizational skills are applied to develop maintenance schedules and maintain detailed records, which help in planning and budgeting. Communication skills are critical when coordinating with project managers and other stakeholders to prioritize repairs and minimize project delays. Additionally, problem-solving skills enable the Lead Mechanic to quickly identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am - 4pm.Snow Responsibilities as necessary.
