The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an Associate Attorney to support the Office of the General Counsel to provide guidance to VEDP on legal issues and policy interpretation and development. This position will have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting in-depth legal research
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents, including memoranda of understanding, performance agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and commercial contracts
- Assisting with Freedom of Information Act compliance in responding to records requests and conducting public meetings
- Advising staff on the development and use of economic development incentives
- Reviewing economic development-related legislation and policy
- Conducting other legal work at the direction of the General Counsel as necessary to support the mission and daily operation of VEDP

- Ability to think creatively and devise solutions to diverse legal questions
- Thorough and efficient legal research skills
- Demonstrated history of working successfully with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Experience:
- Up to five years’ experience
- Familiarity with Virginia government, Virginia law, knowledge of the economic development process, state agency operations, employment law, or commercial transactional law
- Strong academic credentials, a JD degree from an ABA accredited law school, and membership in the Virginia State Bar (or eligibility for membership)
