PET CT Scheduling & Precertification Specialist – Fairfax, VA | Full-Time | Monday – Friday schedule

Advanced Imaging Scheduling | Oncology-Focused Support | No Weekends or Holidays

Fairfax Radiology Centers — the largest radiology practice in the Washington, DC metropolitan area — is seeking a highly detail-oriented and compassionate PET/CT Scheduling & Precertification Specialist to support patients undergoing advanced molecular imaging exams.

PET/CT exams are often critical to cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning. This role requires exceptional accuracy, urgency, and empathy to ensure patients receive timely access to care while all insurance authorization requirements are properly secured.

Location: PET CT Center in Fairfax, Virginia
Schedule: Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
No weekends, holidays, or call
Free on-site parking

What You’ll Do
  • Professionally manage incoming calls from patients, oncology offices, and referring providers
  • Schedule PET/CT and other advanced imaging exams accurately and efficiently
  • Thoroughly complete scheduling, preregistration, and documentation in the RIS system
  • Carefully review patient information to ensure proper exam selection and safety screening
  • Clearly communicate detailed exam preparation instructions and appointment logistics
  • Initiate and manage complex pre-certification/pre-authorization requests with insurance carriers
  • Gather and submit required clinical documentation for oncology-related imaging approvals
  • Track and proactively follow up on authorization status to prevent delays in patient care
  • Keep patients informed if authorization status may impact their scheduled exam
  • Confirm appointments and follow up on missing demographic, insurance, or clinical information
  • Remain current on evolving medical insurance policies related to advanced imaging
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and all federal and state regulations
  • Support Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong, compassionate communication skills — especially when working with oncology patients
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and detail-focused in time-sensitive situations
  • Experience with radiology scheduling and complex imaging pre-certifications strongly preferred
  • Oncology, PET/CT, or advanced imaging authorization experience highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification and pre-authorization workflows
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry
  • High school diploma required
  • Ability to remain seated at a workstation for extended periods
