Quality Assurance Engineer - Software
The Quality Assurance Engineer – Software supports Hyper’s proprietary web application, HyperSpace, by leading quality planning, automation strategy, and release validation across the software development lifecycle. This role defines test scope for new features, integrates test execution into sprint planning, and ensures reliable, high-quality releases in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
As a key partner to Product Management and Engineering, this position helps prevent defects early, strengthens automation and CI/CD processes, and acts as a gatekeeper for production deployments.
Core Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end quality assurance strategy for HyperSpace, including test planning, execution tracking, and release validation.
- Define testing scope for new features and integrate tasks into sprint backlogs to ensure on-time delivery.
- Expand and maintain automated testing frameworks, including Playwright-based automation.
- Own and enhance CI/CD automation processes to enable rapid feedback and continuous quality validation.
- Partner with Product Management and Software Engineering to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria during the design phase to prevent defects before development begins.
- Lead root-cause analysis for production issues and implement preventive measures to reduce recurrence.
- Serve as the primary deployment owner, ensuring releases meet quality standards before production deployment.
- Continuously evaluate and improve QA processes, automation coverage, and deployment workflows.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to documentation of quality standards, test cases, and deployment procedures.
- Support scaling efforts as HyperSpace evolves in complexity and user adoption.
- Advocate for quality-driven engineering practices across the software development team.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in software quality assurance.
- Strong understanding of modern web application architecture, including RESTful APIs, microservices, and single-page applications (SPAs).
- Proficiency with modern automated testing frameworks and tools.
- Experience expanding and maintaining automated testing pipelines.
- Solid understanding of DevOps practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scripting languages and test automation tooling.
- Background in security testing, including familiarity with OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
- Experience implementing or supporting blue/green deployment strategies.
- Ability to translate technical processes into business value and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Location
Onsite in Richmond, VA preferred, or remote, depending on candidate location and business needs.
Compensation
The anticipated minimum starting salary for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
