Accounts Payable Clerk

About the Position
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to join our team. Under general supervision, this position performs routine but essential duties in preparing and processing accounts payable transactions, supporting department staff, and ensuring smooth, accurate financial operations.

Starting Salary: $40,000+ to commensurate with relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Greet visitors and provide excellent customer service to the public, vendors, and County staff
• Respond to inquiries and complaints in person or by phone; route calls and visitors appropriately
• Maintain office supply inventories and coordinate work orders
• Prepare and process invoices and financial documents using our financial software system
• Prepare accounts payable checks for mailing
• Review documentation for compliance with established policies and procedures
• Research and resolve vendor or departmental inquiries regarding invoices and payments
• Explain financial policies, procedures, and programs to internal and external stakeholders
• Verify approvals and ledger coding prior to payment
• Follow up on account discrepancies; serve as liaison between departments and vendors
• Prepare 1099 forms and assist with year-end reporting
• Audit and process credit card statements
• Create expense reports as needed
• Support department heads with accounting-related tasks
• Prepare reports and records to assist with cost projections
• Maintain accurate historical records by scanning and filing documents
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
Ability to:
• Accurately process transactions using automated financial systems
• Perform mathematical calculations and work effectively in accounting software and Microsoft Office
• Maintain positive and professional working relationships with internal and external customers
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Associates degree, relevant certifications, or specialized training will help a candidate stand out.
Physical Requirements
• Frequent sitting for desk work and meetings
• Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, and light lifting
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone or computer (accommodations available)
