We are currently seeking the following Position:

JOB TITLE:

MATERIAL-HANDLING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

JOB PURPOSE:

This mechanic performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspects, tests, and operates equipment to determine serviceability and proper operation. Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications. This work also does the following: disassembles and assembles malfunctioning accessories and components, removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories, stencils and marks equipment in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations. This mechanic prepares equipment for storage and mobility deployment and operates, cleans, inspects, and services equipment towing vehicles.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Repair and maintain specialized shipboard weapons EE-rated (electrical) forklifts and manual pallet jacks used to move weapons and ordnance to and from shipboard magazines, armories, lay down, and vertical replenishment areas.
• Maintain and overhaul major items and assemblies of OHE in accordance with NAVSUP P-538 and SLEP Guide.
• Use various hand and powered tools and precision measurement equipment to identify specific tolerance, reference points, and dimensional accuracy.
• Perform functional, operational, and acceptance tests; evaluate performance characteristics; and compare test results with established ones to determine repaired and rebuilt equipment's structural and functional integrity.
• Troubleshot malfunctioning equipment, performed defect isolation and conducted repair processes related to more complex OHE and m component devices, which are usually composed of a number of interrelated electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assembly components.
• Performs all EE battery testing and analyzing operations in accordance with NAVUP P-538.
• Ensures all EE batteries that pass through the MHE/SMSE Maintenance Facility are tested at least every three years or during the availability of 6 months or more.
• Train shipboard personnel in the proper care and maintenance of shipboard lead acid (flooded) or maintenance-free (gel cell) batteries.
• Ensure all equipment is certified to meet ship operational schedules and deployments. Verify that all final weight test certifications are signed off by the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager IAW NAVSEA SWO23-AH-WHM-010 Rev 8.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be physically able to be on their feet for several hours daily.
• must be able to lift 50 pounds to operate hand dollies and pallet jacks to move parts and materials, as required.
• Active DoD Secret clearance

EDUCATION:

• Graduated from vocational/technical school in a related field or Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) 6811 (Armament Weapon Support Equipment Technician) or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE(REQUIRED):

• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating and maintaining Material-Handling Equipment

CERTIFICATIONS:

• All employees must possess a valid state driver's license and be qualified to operate all equipment maintained.
• Graduate of vocational/technical school in a related field or Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) 6811 (Armament Weapon Support Equipment Technician) or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of direct or related mechanical and electrical experience may be substituted for vocational/technical school and/or NEC.
