JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Head Start Pre-School Teacher’s Aide/Bus Driver
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full-time, 10+ months
RATE OF PAY: Without Associate’s Degree - $15.58 hr.
With CDA - $16.25 hr.
With Associate’s Degree - $16.36 hr.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Avg. 44 weeks, 40 hours per week, 10+ months
LOCATION: Tazewell, Smyth, Wythe, and Bland Counties
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Start Preschool Teacher’s Aide/Bus Driver is responsible for assisting in conducting a classroom in a way that exemplifies the Head Start goals of providing children with educational experiences that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, academically, and physically. S/He works with all components and classroom staff, both individually and as a team member, to ensure successful, nurturing experiences for children in the Center, while recognizing the parents as the most important influences in the lives of their children. Must demonstrate competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate; Staff must be familiar with the ethnic background, be able to communicate in the language of families in the program and be able to serve and effectively communicate, to the extent feasible, with children and families with limited English proficiency. Drive bus routes or ride as a Bus Monitor when needed. Be able to thoroughly inspect bus inside and outside. Must have an awareness of, knowledge, and experience in the needs of low-income families. Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance and punctuality is an essential job function. Must be physically able to lift at least 50 pounds;
EDUCATION: Must at a minimum, have a CDA credential, or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire ; and prefer one year experience working with families. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must have good computer skills. Must have an awareness of, knowledge, and experience in the needs of low-income families. Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must have ability to work with other resource agencies, staff, and families. Must have valid Driver’s License;
PRIOR TO HIRE: Must submit to fingerprint check, Sex Offender check, complete a Sworn Disclosure, and reference checks;
ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS: Must secure a CDL learner’s permit within six months of completing the CDL class. The employee will take the next class after employment. After completing the CDL class, the employee will need to test for a CDL Learner’s within 10 work days. Once an employee receives a CDL Learner’s with passenger and school bus endorsements, range and open road training will be scheduled. Training and CDL license should be completed within six months of completing the CDL class. Must possess or secure First Aid/CPR Certification;
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must get TB screening or PPD, Physical, CPS, DMV, and must be proficient in English;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to lift minimum number of 50 pounds. This position requires bending, lifting, walking, talking, seeing, sitting, running, speaking, and hearing;
PREFERENCES: (Current and former Head Start parent, active Agency volunteers, current work experience participants, interns);
