Hutco Branch: Portsmouth
Shift: ALL (0600 – 1445 to start, possible night shift)
Security Clearance: No Clearance Required

Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour

DESCRIPTION:

Hutco, Inc. is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic with commercial industrial experience to join our team in Norfolk, VA. This role involves the repair and maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment, including air compressors, fire pumps, metal shears, band saws, drill presses, and other production equipment. The ideal candidate should have the ability to diagnose machinery issues and make necessary repairs. A Journeyman Card Holder is a plus.

GUIDELINES FOR MAINTENANCE MECHANICS:

• Experience : Must have commercial industrial experience. Journeyman cardholder preferred.
• Equipment Repair : Capable of repairing and maintaining equipment following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, and manufacturers' specifications.
• Diagnostic Skills : Ability to diagnose and resolve problems in machinery operated manually, air hydraulically, or electrically.
• Measuring Instruments : Skilled in the use of measuring instruments such as rules, calipers, and micrometers.
• Power Tool Operation : Experience operating power tools, lathes, drill presses, band saws, grinders, and other equipment.
• Building Maintenance : Some skills and experience in building maintenance and repair, including boilers.
• Welding and Burning : Experience in burning and welding is beneficial.
• Navy Vessel Experience : Knowledge of temporary services aboard Navy vessels is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Carrying, Lifting, Walking, Climbing, Pulling, Crawling, Crouching, Standing, Stooping, Kneeling, Talking, Hearing .
• Vision Requirements : Adequate visual acuity for tasks such as operating machinery or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks.

Must be able to lift/carry tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently and be able to work in tight spaces and varying conditions (e.g., wet, humid, wind, varied temperatures).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to climb on and around ships, work at heights, on ladders, and scaffolding.
• Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, vibrations from tools, constant machinery, and possible toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Frequent standing and walking for 75% of the time.

JOURNEYPERSON LEVELS:

• Journeyperson 4 : Needs limited supervision and should be able to assist others.
• Journeyperson 3 : Requires minimum supervision.
• Journeyperson 2 : Will need supervision but should demonstrate potential for advancement.
• Journeyperson 1 : Requires close supervision but should show the ability to progress for advancement.
