JOB SUMMARY:

The Master Electrician performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance or repair of electrical and electrical related equipment at the United States Coastguard (USCG) Training Center Yorktown in an efficient and effective manner under the supervision of the Site Management and/or Operations Manager. This position is with Brevard Achievement Center Enterprises (BACE), which is a subsidiary of Brevard Achievement Center (BAC).

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure accomplishment of daily activities related to electrical trade functions and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Review electrical work orders and organize workload.
  • Performs routine electrical maintenance to ensure lighting systems operate efficiently in accordance with NEC.
  • Install and/or repair wiring, electrical and major and minor electronic components.
  • Responsible for replacing lamps and ballasts.
  • Responsible for cleaning lighting fixtures, outlet repairs and/or replacement, various switches and other connections. sensors and ground fault interrupters and performing miscellaneous re-lamping repairs.
  • Inspect, operate and test industrial lighting equipment to diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Plan and layout repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals and schematic diagrams.
  • Keep maintenance records of work performed.
  • Restore fixtures to proper operating condition and lighting to current Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) standards.
  • Ensure compliance with appliance standards and with OSHA.
  • Install or repair any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers. circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems or other transmission equipment.
  • Locate and diagnose problems in the electrical system or equipment.
  • Work standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
  • Use a variety of electrician hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.
  • Inspect, test, operate, and maintain all fire detection and fire suppression alarm components and associated control panels.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • No

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed by the State of Virginia as a Master Electrician.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ direct experience working on commercial/industrial electrical systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience mentoring and guiding maintenance personnel.
  • Experience working with high-voltage (600V and above) electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage safety procedures, including PPE, grounding, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.
  • Must be able to pass a background screening for access to the work areas.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Background screening and have reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of five (5) weekends per year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fire Alarm Technician Certification
  • OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Must be able to work harmoniously in a team environment with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints
  • Must have the ability and be willing to work outside of normal working hours such as back shift and weekends, in the event of unplanned outages.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to provide customer service in a professional and courteous manner
  • Completes assigned work on or before deadlines in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by applicable agencies.
  • Attends work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice for time-off requests.
  • Reasoning Ability: Able to identify issues or problems, evaluate and draw valid conclusions.
  • Attentive to detail for quality performance.

TRAVEL:

No travel is required for this position.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE (IF APPLICABLE):

Government clearance required for access to work sites

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks. This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation, when practical, can be offered to accomplish the above requirements.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tasks are performed inside and outside with some exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, heat, cold, rain, fumes).
  • Work may be performed in confined spaces
  • Will need to use any personal protective (safety) equipment as designated properly and consistently.
  • Some tasks may be performed independently with little supervision.
  • Maintain and operate all lift equipment necessary to service lights.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid qualified.
  • Some work performed from heights, ladders and man lifts.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity.

Availability: Full Time days

Salary: $44.76 per hour
