CNC Machinist - Vertical Mills

Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator is a critical production role responsible for running and monitoring small vertical CNC milling machines to produce high-precision metal components in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to strict quality standards, and the ability to work independently across all shift cycles (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Operation: Execute full production cycles on a small vertical CNC mill, ensuring machines run smoothly and efficiently throughout the shift. Load raw material, initiate program cycles, and monitor machine performance.
2. Quality Control: Perform continuous in-process inspection of parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure all components meet tight dimensional tolerances specified in blueprints and work orders.
3. Minor Setup & Adjustments: Perform minor tooling changes, offset adjustments, and machine calibrations to maintain quality and production rates. Communicate any major issues or program errors immediately to the lead machinist or supervisor.
4. Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record production data, quality checks, and maintenance logs. Report any non-conforming parts or safety concerns promptly.
5. Preventative Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform routine preventative maintenance (e.g., fluid checks, chip removal) to ensure machine longevity and reliability.

Required Qualifications & Skills

1. Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience operating CNC milling machines in a production setting. Experience with small vertical mills (e.g., Haas, Robodrill) is highly desirable.
2. Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and G-code basics.
3. Inspection Skills: Proficient use of standard metrology equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
4. Work Ethic: Highly motivated, reliable, and capable of performing repetitive tasks with unwavering attention to detail and quality.
5. Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a manufacturing environment which may include exposure to loud noise and coolant.

Shift Requirements

This position requires schedule flexibility and availability to work across three standard shifts on fixed basis:

1. 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
2. 2nd Shift 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
3. 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
