MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Hematology
Description
This is a full-time, on-site position within a thriving medical practice environment, offering a compelling opportunity to deliver exceptional patient care and advance your clinical expertise.
As a Hematology physician you will play a vital role in diagnosing and treating a wide range of blood disorders, including anemia, clotting abnormalities, and hematologic malignancies. You will work within a collaborative, patient-first medical practice, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with benign and malignant hematologic conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care protocols
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, bone marrow biopsies, and imaging studies
- Collaborate with oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists to ensure coordinated patient care
- Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and disease management
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records in accordance with regulatory standards
- Participate in tumor boards, case conferences, and continuing medical education activities
- Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers as applicable
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, safety standards, and institutional policies
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care that prioritizes patient well-being
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
- Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology
- Active and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Virginia
- Completion of an accredited internal medicine residency and hematology fellowship
- Strong clinical knowledge of hematologic disorders and treatment modalities
- Excellent diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities with patients, families, and colleagues
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, on-site clinical environment
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and continuous learning
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is preferred
- Fellowship training in hematology-oncology is a plus
- Prior experience in a community or hospital-based medical practice is desirable
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Call Requirement: Every 4th or 5th weekend, 1-2 holidays per year, and 1-2 night shifts per month
Fellows take first call
Case Types: 100% benign hematology
Academic opportunities available

9 Hematology Oncology fellows rotating in the system
Must be board-certified or board-eligible
Prior director experience preferred
