PCU RN Job Details – Roanoke, VA

• Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse
• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – 8 MPCU
• Duration: 13-week contract
• Start Date: Flexible; must start by end of September 2025
• Shifts: 3x12-hour day shifts (06:45 – 19:15) per week
• Hours per Week: 36 hours
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1680 - $1730
• Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric patients
• Unit Details: 20-bed telemetry PCU specializing in pulmonary and medicine-related illnesses; capacity for 2 ventilated patients

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or acute care RN experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management
• Experience with cardiac drips (no titration), oxygen therapy (CPAP, BiPAP), trach care, and isolation precautions
• Willingness to float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as needed
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

PCU RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced PCU environment
• Monitor and assess patients with pulmonary, renal, and complex medical conditions, including telemetry and ventilator support
• Administer medications and IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Lasix, Bumex, low dose dopamine/dobutamine)
• Perform and manage central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Accurately document patient care using EPIC electronic health records
• Participate in self-scheduling, work required weekend and holiday shifts, and float as needed within the facility
