General Utility Worker - UVA - Pavilion XI

Job Description

UVA Dine is seeking a diligent and reliable General Utility Worker to support the operations of the PAV Food Hall located in Newcomb Hall on the University of Virginia grounds. This role is crucial for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe dining environment, assisting with various kitchen and service tasks, and providing essential support to ensure efficient operations in a dynamic food hall setting.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all areas within the PAV Food Hall, including dining areas, serving stations, kitchen spaces, equipment, and utensils.
• Operate dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, trays, glassware, and cookware efficiently and according to sanitation standards.
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients as directed by culinary staff.
• Transport food items, supplies, and equipment between storage areas, kitchen, and serving stations.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles regularly and ensure proper disposal of waste.
• Clean and sanitize food storage areas, including refrigerators and freezers.
• Receive and properly store deliveries of food and supplies, ensuring correct rotation (FIFO).
• Assist with setting up and breaking down dining areas, including tables, chairs, and serving lines.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness of restrooms and common areas within the food hall.
• Provide support to other food service staff as needed, including stocking condiments, refilling beverage stations, and assisting with spills.
• Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including HACCP principles.
• Follow all UVA Dine and Aramark policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by operational needs.
• Prior experience in food service, dishwashing, or utility work is preferred, but not always required.
