Job Title: Hearing Services Technician

Position Summary:
The Hearing Services Technician supports audiologists and patients throughout the hearing evaluation process by preparing patients, operating and maintaining audiometric equipment, facilitating remote audiology sessions through the MaestroAuD™ platform, and ensuring accurate, efficient, and patient-centered clinical workflows. This position serves as the on-site clinical support for both in-person and remote audiology services while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, infection control, and professional communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Welcome patients and verify identity using established patient identification protocols.
- Explain testing procedures and the MaestroAuD™ process in a patient-friendly manner.
- Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure appropriate positioning for testing procedures.
- Assist audiologists during diagnostic evaluations and hearing healthcare appointments.
- Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining patient comfort and confidentiality.
- Recognize patient concerns or behavioral cues and communicate appropriately with the supervising audiologist.
Audiometric Equipment Setup & Testing Support
- Prepare examination rooms and audiometric equipment prior to patient appointments.
- Correctly place and adjust audiometric transducers, including headphones, insert earphones, and bone oscillators.
- Ensure proper equipment placement to support accurate diagnostic testing.
- Follow audiologist instructions regarding masking procedures and test administration support.
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment setup and connectivity issues as needed.
Video Otoscopy
- Prepare and maintain video associated with the equipment.
- Select and attach appropriate specula for patient examinations.
- Obtain clear visual images of the ear canal and tympanic membrane.
- Perform otoscope cleaning, disinfection, and storage according to clinic protocols.
- Document findings and relay information to the audiologist as directed.
Tympanometry & Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)
- Perform tympanometry testing when permitted by clinic protocols and state regulations.
- Select appropriate probe tips and obtain proper seals for testing.
- Recognize valid and invalid test results and repeat procedures when necessary.
- Conduct OAE testing, including proper probe placement and noise floor monitoring.
- Maintain testing accuracy and communicate concerns to the audiologist.
Pediatric Audiology Support
- Utilize age-appropriate communication techniques when interacting with pediatric patients.
- Assist with Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) and other pediatric testing methods.
- Engage caregivers appropriately during testing sessions.
- Monitor patient cooperation and behavioral responses during evaluations.
- Remain present during pediatric testing sessions as required.
MaestroAuD™ & MaestroFusion™ Workflow Support
- Facilitate remote audiology appointments using MaestroAuD™ technology.
- Join and manage MaestroAuD™ sessions according to established workflows.
- Follow start-of-day and end-of-day MaestroFusion™ operational procedures.
- Coordinate communication between patients and remote audiologists.
- Escalate technical or clinical concerns according to established protocols.
- Ensure seamless workflow integration between on-site staff and remote providers.
Infection Control & Equipment Maintenance
- Adhere to all infection prevention and control procedures.
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize equipment between patients.
- Dispose of single use supplies according to clinic guidelines.
- Maintain proper hand hygiene and personal protective practices.
- Reset examination rooms and organize equipment after each patient encounter.
- Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
Professionalism & Communication
- Maintain professional communication with patients, providers, and remote audiologists.
- Demonstrate a calm, professional demeanor during all patient interactions.
- Protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow clinic policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Participate in required training and competency assessments.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, audiologists, and other clinical team members.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification, Audiology Assistant training, or related healthcare experience preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office, ENT practice, audiology clinic, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience working with pediatric patients preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and patient service skills.
- Ability to follow detailed clinical instructions and protocols.
- Basic understanding of hearing healthcare and audiometric testing principles.
- Ability to operate medical and audiometric equipment accurately and safely.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Proficiency with computer systems and telehealth technology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
- Ability to assist patients with positioning as needed.
- Ability to operate computers, audiometric equipment, and medical devices.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Clinical healthcare environment including audiology and ENT examination rooms.
- Frequent interaction with patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
- Use of telehealth and remote diagnostic technology platforms.
- Exposure to standard medical office equipment and cleaning agents.
