Plant Production & Process Optimization Manager

Trivium Packaging
Roanoke, VA

Job Description

Job Description

What if your next role let you scale safety, quality, and throughput—simultaneously?

Do you excel at orchestrating people, schedules, and equipment to hit ambitious goals? In this role, you’ll manage plant operations in partnership with the Assistant Plant Manager—owning safe, timely, and cost-efficient output; material and inventory coordination; production scheduling; and continuous process optimization that supports the business plan and complies with all legal requirements. You’ll develop technical capability and standard work across the team and align closely with Management and Accounting to build and adhere to operating budgets.

Is this you?
  • Are you relentless about safety and compliance—equipping teams for an incident-free workplace?
  • Do you drive performance in safety, quality, productivity, and customer service with equal rigor?
  • Can you embed culture and values while advancing Operational Excellence via the Trivium Production System (TPS)?
  • Do you use data and statistical tools to pinpoint losses, implement solutions, and verify results?
  • Can you coordinate maintenance with Technical Managers to keep equipment running reliably?
  • Are you a coach who develops Team Leads through clear expectations, feedback, and problem-solving?
  • Do you spot and deliver cost reductions without eroding quality?
  • Can you build effective production and crewing plans that balance output, quality, and inventory?
  • Do you partner seamlessly with Quality to maintain process continuity and resolve nonconformances via root cause analysis?
  • Are you comfortable working with HR on escalated personnel matters and managing labor costs, including overtime?
  • Will you act decisively on reports and requests that affect cost-effectiveness and quality?
  • Can you define and enforce quantitative KPIs and communicate performance updates clearly?
  • Are you ready to recruit and select top operations talent and stay connected 24/7 as needed to protect business continuity?
  • Do you maintain fluency in BRC Food Safety Policy, GMPs, HACCP principles, and BRC Standards?
  • Can you ensure the environmental management system meets ISO 14001 requirements and report performance to leadership?
Qualifications you’ll need to succeed
  • Associate/Technical degree in a related field and five years of management experience in high-volume manufacturing (can/end manufacturing preferred) covering hiring, reviews, coaching, training, and development; or substantial related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in high-throughput, tight-tolerance operations and complex problem-solving.
  • Clear communicator up, down, and across the organization; strong relationship builder.
  • Systems thinker with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of OSHA, ISO, HACCP, and/or GMP.
  • Comfort with statistics and quality metrics.
  • Proficiency with Windows, MS Office, Visio, SAP, and similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and communication capabilities.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations relevant to the operation.
Where and how you’ll work

You’ll operate from an office located on the production floor. Expect very loud conditions outside the office; hearing protection and assigned PPE are mandatory. Temperatures may vary from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees). The air may contain fumes, dust, and odors. You’ll regularly use a computer, cellphone, and other office equipment.

Physical aspects include standing, walking, manual dexterity, talking, and hearing on a regular basis; frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; lifting and moving up to 20 pounds; and using close and distance vision with color recognition.

What you’ll influence from day one
  • Safety leadership and compliance stewardship across shifts
  • Production scheduling, crewing optimization, and inventory alignment
  • Maintenance coordination and uptime improvement
  • Cost management, including overtime control
  • Introduction and stabilization of new products
  • Quantitative KPI definition, tracking, and enforcement
  • Insightful reporting and communication to stakeholders
Compensation

Salary Range: $103,000 - $129,000 (good-faith estimate based on the expected scope of the role and internal equity considerations).
