Job Description

As a Material Handler, you will support production operations by performing hands-on tasks such as pulling wires, assembling boxes, removing foreign materials, and managing raw and finished materials. This role is ideal for candidates who are comfortable in a physically active work environment and take pride in maintaining product integrity and operational flow.

Responsibilities

• Pull Wires from the Bale:
  • Cut wires opposite the knot of Greenleaf bales
  • Remove cardboard slip sheets and wires at the cutting station
  • Sort wires and cardboard into designated recycling bins
  • Eliminate any contaminants or debris that could harm equipment or product quality
  • Request stacks of tops and bottoms for upcoming packaging runs
• Build Boxes for Final Product:
  • Inspect incoming cartons for any damage or supplier contamination
  • Assemble one top and one bottom to create a box
  • Insert required kraft paper or chipboard layers as needed per product type
  • Apply appropriate pre-printed belly tag for labeling
  • Stage boxes on roller conveyors for downstream packing
• Material Handling:
  • Remove stalks, off-color tobacco, and foreign materials (e.g., string, dirt, paper) from conveyors
  • Assist operators by cleaning machines, equipment, and surrounding workstations
  • Shovel loose materials such as sand, gravel, plastic, or tobacco into containers or hoppers
  • Sort materials into buckets based on type (e.g., dark tobacco, green tobacco, tobacco with stems)
  • Pull degradation test samples following the JTI Quality Manual (QC only)
• Cleaning Designated Areas:
  • Sweep assigned zones and remove debris or contaminants
  • Collect and dispose of sweepings into designated metal containers
  • Maintain strict cleanliness following the 5S3R housekeeping policy
• Other Duties:
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the line manager

Qualifications and Requirements

• Prior material handling or warehouse experience preferred
• Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Basic understanding of safety and housekeeping standards
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

In the spirit of pay transparency, we want to share the base salary range for this position is $17-$19 per hour, not including benefits, potential bonuses, or additional compensation. If you are hired, your base salary will be determined based on factors such as individual skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition, we also believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the rate mentioned above is the full base hourly rate for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
