GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this position is responsible for coordinating and performing a variety of technical functions related to personal computer (PC) applications development and programming for the Waterworks Department. Reports to the Network and Process Controls Systems Manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs routine installation and maintenance of personal computer and related equipment within the department; provides technology support to the IT HelpDesk and end-users in troubleshooting hardware and software problems; performs routine repairs and coordinates repair service with necessary outside entities; completes documentation as appropriate. Deploys new personal computers, printers, and other hardware based on lease expirations or lifecycle timescales; rolls out software updates using large scale and widely deployed packages such as ArcGIS and MS Office; coordinates security updates and security software on personal computers. Ensures the security of systems by limiting access to appropriate personnel. Maintains hardware and software inventory and backup files and systems for personal computers and servers; rotates backup tapes; identifies and resolves backup failures as necessary; coordinates offsite storage of tapes. Performs other duties as assigned. Computer Hardware - Knowledge of NT networking technologies, Windows Server Operating Systems (2000, XP, Server 2000/2003, etc), personal computers, laptops, printers (laser, inkjet, or barcode) and cabling systems. ?
Computer Software - Knowledge of Microsoft Office (2000/2007, etc), MS Active Directory, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and related departmental software and programs. ?
Computer Programming - Understanding of data processing principles and practices related to applications development and programming.

REQUIRED ABILITIES ?
Analytical- Ability to perform logical problem solving based on knowledge of MS Operating Systems, TCP/IP networking and various software applications. ?
Communication - Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas and proposals effectively so others will understand to include preparation of reports, schedules, and documentation. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. ?
Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field with 1-2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Microsoft Professional is desirable.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal check and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ?
Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. ?
Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10
pounds). ?
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS ?
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. ?
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
