Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Assistant
Ferrum College is a member of Conference Carolinas. PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Strength and Conditioning Coach/Weight Room Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for the Ferrum College Athletics Department. The primary goal is to enhance the overall athletic performance, reduce the risk of injuries, and contribute to the success of the athletic teams. This role involves working closely with the Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor, coaches, sports medicine staff, and athletes to develop and execute tailored training regimens that align with the specific needs of each sport. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs tailored to the individual needs and goals of athletes. Design periodized training plans to optimize performance during different phases of the season.
Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor, coaching staff to integrate strength and conditioning programs into overall team training strategies.
Assist the Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor to lead and supervise strength and conditioning sessions, ensuring proper technique, intensity, and adherence to the prescribed program.
Monitor athletes during workouts to prevent injuries and provide immediate feedback on form and performance.
Adjust training plans based on individual progress, injuries, and specific sport requirements.
Assist with conducting comprehensive assessments of athletes' physical capabilities, including strength, power, flexibility, and mobility.
Utilize performance testing and monitoring tools to track athletes' progress and adjust training programs accordingly.
Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor, sports medicine staff to identify and address injury risk factors through targeted exercises and corrective strategies.
Implement rehabilitation exercises to reduce the likelihood of injuries and aid in the rehabilitation process.
Educate athletes on the importance of proper nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle choices to support overall performance.
Communicate regularly with Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor, coaching staff, sports medicine personnel, and athletes to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to training.
Monitor gym activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols and proper use of equipment.
Be knowledgeable about emergency procedures and respond promptly to any incidents or injuries.
Enforce safety rules and address any behavior that may compromise the well-being of users.
Conduct regular inspections of weight room equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
Report any malfunctioning or damaged equipment for prompt repair or replacement.
Organize and maintain an efficient layout of equipment to optimize space and user experience.
Assist with implementing and enforcing cleanliness standards within the weight room, including regular equipment cleaning and sanitation.
Coordinate with the Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor and custodial staff to address larger cleaning tasks and maintain a hygienic environment.
Provide educational resources and materials related to proper fitness techniques, equipment usage, and gym etiquette.
Conduct orientations for new users to familiarize them with the weight room layout and rules.
Enforce facility rules and policies consistently and fairly.
Address and resolve conflicts with Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor or issues among users in a professional manner.
Report any violations of policies to the Strength and Conditioning/Weight Room Supervisor.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:Education/Experiences:
A bachelor's degree, collegiate playing experience and prior coaching experience is preferred. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent certification. Previous experience working as a strength and conditioning coach at the college or professional level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Certification in CPR
Current and valid driver's license required. Other Preferences:
The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work on evenings and weekends throughout the year to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field.
