Civil Engineering Technician- CAD Draftsman
Utilize Latest versions of AutoCAD software and PC hardware to prepare drawings and topographical and relief maps used in civil engineering projects, such as Site plans, highways, grading plans, stormwater control, pipelines, flood control projects, and water and sewerage control systems.
Duties and Tasks for CAD Draftsman
1) Produce drawings using computer assisted drafting systems (CAD) or drafting machines or by hand using compasses, dividers, protractors, triangles and other drafting devices.
2) Draft plans and detailed drawings for civil/site infrastructure, engineered plan sets, installations, and construction projects such as highways, sewage disposal systems, and dikes, working from survey crew data, geospatial data, sketches or notes.
3) Draw maps, diagrams, and profiles, preparing and using point files or cross-sections and surveys, to represent elevations, topographical contours, and structures.
4) Correlate, interpret, and modify data obtained from topographical surveys or property surveys.
5) Finish and duplicate drawings and documentation packages, according to required mediums and specifications for reproduction, using blackline printing, photography, or other duplicating methods.
6) Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from civil engineers or surveyors to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
7) Supervise and train other technicians and drafters.
8) Supervise or conduct site visits, inspections or technical investigations to obtain data required to revise construction drawings.
9) Determine the order of work and method of presentation, such as orthographic or isometric drawing.
10) Calculate excavation volumes for use in earth-moving operations.
11) Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary.
12) Locate and identify symbols located on topographical surveys to denote geological and geophysical formations or oil field installations.
13) Calculate weights, volumes, slopes, heights and levels and their implications for technical aspects of designs.
14) Determine quality, cost, and quantity of required materials, and enter figures on materials lists.

2) Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying land formations, improvements, required shaping and grading, Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment -- Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to instruct contractors, developers, regulators and other professionals how shape grading, control water and sediment, construct structures and systems.
3) Interacting With Computers -- Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
4) Making Decisions and Solving Problems -- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
5) Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards -- Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Skills Needed for CAD Draftsman
1) Mathematics -- Using mathematics to solve problems.

1) Education and Experience – Minimum High School graduate or Equivalent. Preference will be given to those with advance technical training in graphics, computer design, or engineering. 2 years working in CAD graphics. Preference will be given to those with direct experience in Land Development planning.
2) Computers and Electronics – Knowledge and basic understanding of personal computers and computing, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Familiarity with AutoCAD civil 3D, Microsoft Office Products is considered a requirement.
3) Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
4) Design -- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blacklines, pdfs, blueprints, drawings, and models. 5) Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. 6) English Language -- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
