Health Insurance Instructional Designer
Location: Remote with Occasional meetings in Reston, VA
Type: Contract
Compensation: $53.50/HR
Contractor Work Model: Mostly remote with occasional meetings onsite in Reston, VA
ALTA IT is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer with a strong background in health insurance operations to join our client. The ideal candidate will design and deliver training for diverse audiences—including Customer Service Representatives, Claims Processors, and Enrollment staff—focused on claims, enrollment, and benefits processes. This role requires expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and training delivery (virtual instructor-led and e-learning).
The Instructional Designer will partner with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to analyze needs, design engaging learning solutions, and facilitate trainings that support process changes, new products, software updates, and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities

Design and develop engaging Instructor-led Training (virtual and in-person), eLearning modules, and blended learning solutions including design documents, course outlines, job aids, manuals, assessments, and multimedia content.

Deliver live trainings (virtual instructor-led sessions for groups of 10–300 learners).

Create visually engaging training materials that adhere to corporate branding standards.

Conduct front-end analysis, including needs assessment, task analysis, and instructional analysis, to inform design.

Collaborate with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners to ensure accuracy and relevance of learning materials.

Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to optimize learning outcomes.

Continuously evaluate and update learning programs to maintain alignment with business objectives and process updates.

Support learners on claims, enrollment, and benefits processes to ensure accuracy in servicing members and processing claims.

Manage the full training lifecycle including design, development, facilitation, and post-training evaluation.
Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (minimum requirement)

Experience:
-
5+ years of instructional design and training delivery experience (preferably within health insurance or healthcare).

Experience creating and facilitating training on claims, enrollment, benefits, and related health insurance processes.

Strong background in virtual instructor-led training and e-learning design.

Technical Skills:
-
Proficiency with eLearning development tools (Articulate 360, Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of multimedia and mobile learning solutions.

Other Skills:

Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to engage audiences of 10–300 learners.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities and deadlines.

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field.

Experience developing simulations, video tutorials, and blended learning solutions.

Familiarity with health insurance claims, enrollment systems, and benefits administration.
