Position and Responsibilities

This opportunity is ideal for a self-starting, detail-oriented, and technically proficient individual to be a key member of a small team supporting the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). The Senior Engineer for C5ISRT provides technical expertise in warfighting capability development, integration and transition of new technologies that close time-critical gaps in high-priority, multi-component warfighting missions. The successful candidate will deliver technical assessments and analysis to provide recommended innovative approaches, technologies, and capabilities to address critical joint warfighting capability gaps through the JCIDS process. Additionally, the Senior Engineer provides subject-matter expertise in warfighting technologies and capabilities for C5ISRT, Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) and Battlespace Awareness. The successful candidate will collaborate with Service, Joint Staff, CCMD and OSD stakeholders to support the transition of technologies from prototypes and joint experimentation activities to Service programs of record, as well as prepare and deliver reports and briefings to DoD leadership.

Required Experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience
  • Executive presence with highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop high-quality, professional briefings and written reports to succinctly capture key issues for DoD decision-makers
  • Experience leading the planning and execution of complex engineering and systems analysis efforts for the DoD and/or IC
  • Technical expertise in command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting (C5ISRT) in one or more of the following areas: space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) or airborne ISR; Battle Management Command, Control and Communications (BMC3); Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC); Artificial Intelligence (AI); or Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT)
  • Operational experience in one or more areas of C5ISRT or CJADC2

Desired Experience

  • OSD, Joint Staff, and/or Service Staff experience
  • Technical expertise and operational experience in Resilient Communications
  • JCIDS experience working with the Joint Staff in the military requirements process
