Hospital Lab Tech Job Details

• Location: Richmond, VA (23298) – Virginia healthcare jobs
• Setting: Academic hospital laboratory
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 9/29/2025 – End: 12/29/2025)
• Shift: Day shift, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8-hour shifts)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $3000–$3080
• No call or weekends required
• Epic charting system utilized
• Charcoal gray scrubs required
• New Faxitron PathPlus in service
• 28,000 surgical pathology cases per year

Pathologists Assistant Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pathologists Assistant or Hospital Lab Tech (first-time travelers welcome)
• ASCP - PA certification required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Eligible for Virginia or compact state licensure (30-day work authorization accepted with timely licensure completion)
• Ability to assist and train Pathology Residents in gross room techniques
• Two professional references required
• Must comply with facility policies (natural nail policy, background check, fingerprinting for ER/Psych candidates)

Pathologists Assistant Responsibilities

• Assist and train Pathology Residents in gross room techniques
• Sectioning and accessioning surgical pathology specimens
• Cut and stain frozen sections
• Perform evisceration, post mortem examinations, and preparation of human postmortem exams
• Prepare tissue samples for histological processing
• Obtain biological samples for flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and image analysis
• Conduct gross/microscopic photography and radiography
• Removal of brain and spinal cord as needed
• Report test results and maintain accurate documentation in Epic
• Float within scope as needed
• Support research and teaching initiatives in an academic healthcare setting
