Location: City of Virginia Beach
Hours:
Monday- Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

Payrate: $19.48

About the Position

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a detail-oriented Administrative Technician to support Child Welfare operations. This role provides essential administrative and customer service support, maintains records, assists staff, and helps ensure efficient daily workflow across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of correspondence for program staff, including disposition letters, face sheets, and diligent search letters.
  • Coordinate the check-out and return of computer equipment.
  • Send and track certified and regular mail.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and tracking documents.
  • Route documents for administrative signatures.
  • Distribute Child Welfare forms to staff.
  • Track daily work items and ensure timely processing.
  • Assist with onboarding new Child Welfare employees.
  • Submit requests for equipment moves, updates, or changes.
  • Schedule administrative and program meetings.
  • Serve as meeting scribe for Child Welfare meetings and program discussions.
  • Conduct research using available resources and summarize findings for projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A combination of education beyond high school and/or work experience totaling 4 years in a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, and standard office software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional to Include)

  • Experience in Child Welfare, Human Services, or government agency work.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, record-keeping, and customer service practices.
  • Familiarity with City of Virginia Beach systems (if applicable).

  • Produce accurate reports and documentation.
  • Meet deadlines and follow established procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff and community members.
  • Maintain compliance with City policies and confidentiality requirements.
