Compensation: Paid training begins at $12.77/hour for your first few training shifts. After training, you’ll earn $12.00/hour plus tips, with guaranteed minimum earnings of $18.25/hour during barista shifts. Weekly tips often bring total earnings above this guaranteed minimum , and we offer structured hourly pay increases as you develop your skills and grow with us.

Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters (CWJ) is a DMV-based specialty coffee company delivering award-winning cold brew where people work, live, and play. We operate a flagship cafe in Arlington, VA, a roastery and brewery in Beltsville, MD, and a remote corporate team supporting our cold brew on tap program nationwide.

• Prepare espresso beverages, pour-overs, and brewed coffee to Commonwealth Joe standards.
• Diagnoses and improves coffee quality through measurement and taste
• Regularly cups and tastes coffees to develop palate and expertise
• Help reduce waste while maintaining quality and consistency.

Customer Experience Expertise

• Create memorable customer experiences by anticipating guest needs.
• Deliver exceptional hospitality with professionalism both on and off shift.
• Build relationships with regular guests and help foster a welcoming community.
• Maintain exceptional personal hygiene and professional appearance.
• Keep workstations clean, organized, and guest-ready at all times.

Inventory & Supplies

• Monitor inventory and restock cafe supplies as needed.
• Communicate inventory and supply needs with Leads and Managers.

Upkeep & Maintenance

• Perform routine equipment maintenance to ensure high-quality beverages.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming cafe environment.

• Work collaboratively with other team members to anticipate customer needs.
• Step into different roles whenever needed to support the team.
• Work scheduled shifts reliably and assist with shift coverage when available.
• Solve problems with a positive, team-first mindset.

• Promotes seasonal drinks, featured menu items, and loyalty programs.
• Provides product recommendations based on customer preferences to enhance sales.

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health standards.
• Maintain compliance with company policies and local health regulations.
