The Role

Lumen Technologies is seeking a Senior Information Security Engineer who can help design, engineer, build, deploy, and support infrastructure solutions that expand visibility for searching out and identifying cyber threats both on-premises and in cloud environments.

The Main Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, troubleshoot, and support technologies that monitor network and host systems—both on-premises and in cloud environments—for cyber threats and incident response alerts.
• Collaborate across Lumen teams to support initiatives such as system deployments and infrastructure enhancements.
• Administer security systems and applications to ensure high availability, performance, and stability for incident response operations.
• Tune systems and applications to optimize performance and reduce false positives.
• Automate routine tasks and enhance operational capabilities through scripting and tooling.
• Coordinate with vendors to align solutions with Lumen’s security needs and drive capability improvements.
• Develop and maintain performance metrics to demonstrate value and track improvements in technologies and processes.
• Analyze system utilization statistics to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend enhancements for budget planning and approval.
• Perform upgrades, patching, hardening, access control, and routine maintenance of Linux and Windows-based security infrastructure.
• Build and maintain tools and programs that support other security teams.
• Create, update, and adhere to corporate and team-level processes, including change and outage management protocols.

What We Look For in a Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and supporting security controls such as Endpoint Detection and
• Response (EDR) and Network Detection and Response (NDR).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Linux system administration, virtualization, configuration, and support within a security context.
• Strong background in network design, support, and troubleshooting (e.g., routers, firewalls, switches, TAPs).
• Solid understanding of major computing platforms including Windows, Linux, and vendor-specific appliances.
• Proven ability to analyze system throughput, utilization, and capacity to inform infrastructure decisions.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications

• Security Information Event Manager (SIEM) experience.
• Application and/or scripting development experience.
• Experience securing cloud environments.
• Experience with large enterprise data centers and/or networks.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$91,266 - $121,688 in these states: VA
