Construction Estimator

We are looking for a Construction Estimator to support commercial construction projects from preconstruction through bid submission. This role is ideal for someone with experience pricing commercial interiors, renovations, and ground-up work who can build accurate estimates, coordinate with subcontractors and vendors, and help position projects for successful execution. The company supports commercial construction clients in Central Virginia and focuses on general contracting, construction management, and preconstruction services across interior improvements, building expansions, and mid-level ground-up projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed conceptual, budgetary, and hard-bid estimates for commercial construction projects

• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop complete scopes of work

• Perform quantity takeoffs and analyze labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing

• Solicit, level, and compare subcontractor and vendor proposals to support accurate bid coverage

• Identify scope gaps, risk items, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives

• Collaborate with project managers, field leadership, and preconstruction team members during bidding and handoff

• Maintain estimating files, bid logs, subcontractor outreach, and pricing databases

• Assist with preconstruction planning, budget development, and proposal preparation

• Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and scope reviews as needed

• Support smooth turnover of awarded projects to operations teams

Requirements

• 3+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction

• Experience with general contracting, construction management, or preconstruction environments

• Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents

• Experience preparing takeoffs and pricing for interiors, renovations, additions, or ground-up commercial projects

• Knowledge of subcontractor scope review, bid leveling, and cost analysis

• Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and standard project management tools

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple bids and deadlines at once

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required

• Familiarity with commercial sectors such as office, healthcare, specialty, or institutional work is helpful, as the company serves commercial, corporate, healthcare, and specialty clients in Central Virginia.
