ELECTRICIAN (Forging Department primary)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrician (Electrical Technician 3) installs, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of electrical equipment and circuitry, installing, repairing, and maintaining electric motors, high voltage circuits, electrical control panels, programmable logic controllers and drives. Electrical work involves a thorough knowledge of the electrical trade and an understanding of the plant operating principles to ensure that equipment functions properly and safely meeting expectations and Amsted Rail procedures and standards. This role will be initially, and primarily, working in our forging department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation.

  • Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail, outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program, including proper lock out tag out procedures
  • Read, interpret, and/or draw blueprints, circuit diagrams, technical specifications and manuals
  • Install and maintain electrical equipment, power distribution, lighting, signals, and alarms
  • Troubleshoot and maintain relay logic circuits, starters, motors, electrical metering devices, and electrical measuring devices
  • Update and maintain knowledge of national electrical codes
  • Design, build and repair various control panels, and draw-up of schematics
  • Use tools of the trade properly, such as multimeters, “meggers”, amp probes, oscilloscope, signal generators and other electrical/electronic test equipment
  • Trouble shoot and repair various electronic controls and circuits, circuit boards, programmable controllers, NC and CNS machine tools/equipment, and electronic components as needed
  • Perform predictive maintenance checks and repairs throughout the facility
  • Work independently and with a team, including other maintenance members, operations, engineering, management, as well as external service providers
  • Complete all necessary forms related to maintenance work including data entry in maintenance connect programs
  • Perform basic housekeeping and 5S duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Department Specific Functions - Forging:

  • Rebuild and organize heaters for forging heater shop
  • Organize calibration procedures and change cameras on a scheduled basis for assigned department(s)
  • Organize, rebuild, pour castings for heaters
  • Order and maintain components, working with internal and external vendors to maintain our inventory through inventory management and preparation (i.e. order components for heaters, communicate with fabricators for repairs, follow up ensuring timely delivery of components, etc.)
  • Certifications and/or equivalent experience required (journeyman exam or similar certification and/or equivalent training with experience)
  • Prior experience in a forging operation, as an electrician, a plus

To be considered a candidate must be able to meet the following qualifications and physical requirements:

  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
  • Lift, push & pull 10 to 50 lbs. regularly, prolonged standing, kneeling, crawling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Color vision (to distinguish wire colors)
  • Wear department required, employer provided, personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Be able to regularly stand and move throughout the department and shift
