Sr. System Engineer,

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide expert-level system administration and support for their Windows Server environment. The role involves managing and maintaining Windows servers, Active Directory, and related technologies, as well as supporting application deployments, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring system uptime and availability. The candidate will also serve as a technical resource for development teams and partners, ensuring compliance with architecture standards and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

- Provide day-to-day system administration on Windows Server environments, including user account management, log review, Active Directory management, group policies, patching, and system maintenance.
- Manage web/app server deployments and operations including IP, load balancing, clustering, firewall rules, failover, monitoring, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
- Configure, customize, and create workflows, plugins, web services, reports, and integration of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
- Support server and application architecture, systems integration, and Internet/Intranet deployment for .NET applications.
- Document current systems and develop recommendations for application improvements.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.
- Serve as a liaison for the development team and business partners.
- Ensure compliance with architecture standards and SDLC/PMLC methodologies.
- Perform software installations, server upgrades, and patching.
- Monitor servers to maintain system uptime and availability.
- Troubleshoot application/database performance issues.
- Review and refine existing processes.
- Propose, execute, and/or direct necessary changes to existing procedures.
- Participate in on-call duties as necessary.
