Director of Emergency Services RN – Full-Time | Salem, VA

• Schedule: Days (No Weekends)
• Salary Range: $110,552 – $176,883 (based on experience)
• Bonus: 15% Director Bonus Eligible

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services RN to lead a dynamic emergency department serving Salem, VA and surrounding regions. This role oversees emergency care operations across a 28-bed main ED and two freestanding ERs, managing a high-volume, Level II Trauma setting with support from a strong leadership team.

You will report directly to the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer and play a critical role in ensuring exceptional patient outcomes, employee engagement, and operational excellence in a fast-paced emergency services environment.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage day-to-day operations across main ER and two freestanding emergency departments

• Oversee departmental service line growth, quality improvement initiatives, and budget performance

• Lead and mentor a team of 4 managers and approximately 60 FTEs across three emergency sites

• Ensure compliance with clinical standards, safety policies, and regulatory requirements

• Drive staff engagement, training, and retention through coaching and professional development

• Collaborate with medical staff and hospital leadership to improve patient care and operational outcomes

• Facilitate performance improvement, patient experience, and evidence-based care initiatives

• Manage resource allocation, staffing, and recruitment efforts to ensure high-quality emergency care delivery

Requirements

• Must have prior Director-level ER leadership experience in an acute care setting

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required

• Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business, or Healthcare Administration preferred

• Active RN license in Virginia or a compact state (must secure VA license within 60 days if relocating)

• 3+ years of leadership experience in emergency services

• ACLS, BLS, and PALS (or ENPC) required
