Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

Your day as a Nurse LPN - Mobile Unit

As an LPN on our Mobile Unit at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a vital role in supporting the staff psychiatrist with the prescription and administration of medications to clients. Your duties will include conducting intake medical evaluations, performing routine physical and mental health assessments, assisting with medication inductions, and providing ongoing monitoring and medication management. You will also be responsible for ordering and dispensing medications as prescribed, supervising drug screens, keeping up with lab results, and offering supportive counseling to clients. This mobile unit is part of our effort to expand opioid treatment services by providing evidence-based MAT medications to individuals who may not have access to our Newport News Clinic or Office-Based program in Hampton. Traveling to various locations, you will ensure that clients receive the medication and care they need, while maintaining accurate documentation and records. This role not only strengthens our dedication to compassionate service but also gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the fight against opioid use disorders in our community.

Requirements for this Nurse LPN - Mobile Unit job

To thrive in the LPN role within our Mobile Unit at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will need a strong foundation of specific skills and experiences. A graduate of an accredited LPN school of nursing is essential, along with at least one year of experience in medication administration, preferably within a substance abuse treatment, psychiatric, or long-term care setting. Familiarity with dispensing narcotic medications is crucial, as you will be responsible for administering evidence-based MAT medications

Proficiency with healthcare software and tools will also be necessary for maintaining accurate records and managing client data efficiently. Excellent communication skills are vital, enabling you to provide supportive counseling and effectively collaborate with the staff psychiatrist and other team members. Your ability to navigate diverse environments and maintain a high level of empathy and professionalism will be key to ensuring the best outcomes for our clients in this vital service.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN school of nursing with one year of experience in the administration of medication or in a substance abuse treatment psychiatric setting or long-term care facility including the dispensing of narcotic medication.
